Volunteers can take all shapes and sizes.  Some of them even have four legs. MPTF's Holly Spiegel and Coal We love animals here at MPTF, from the pets belonging to our residents (often seen playing in our dog park, Doggywood) to the staff members’ canines who do double duty as therapy dogs. Volunteer DogsOur special thanks go to the crew from Love on a Leash, a volunteer organization who have been bringing doggie visitors to campus since 2018.

The Love on a Leash crew visits on Tuesdays and Thursdays, with the dogs and their owners split up so they can visit both our Residential and Long-Term Care residents with plenty of time for play and laughter. Pets provide numerous health benefits ranging from physical health to stress relief, and when you couple that with the rich rewards of giving back, it’s a win-win for everyone involved. We have to give a special salute to one of the Love on a Leash regulars, Coal, who just celebrated his 100th visit with residents. A warm round of applause goes out to Coal, and his person Nancy Birnie who also creates Angel Cards for MPTF residents, and the many furry friends who accompany him on these special visits that truly make a difference.
