WE ARE SO PROUD
Jean Hersholt
Humanitarian Award
It’s been our honor to serve the entertainment community for 100 years. We couldn’t be more thrilled to receive this great honor from the Academy.
On April 25, 2021, the Academy honored MPTF for its amazing support of the entertainment community during the pandemic and its 100 years of taking care of its own in the industry with the Jean Hersholt Humanitarian Award. Presented by Bryan Cranston during the live broadcast of the show on ABC, MPTF CEO and President Bob Beitcher, Jennifer Jorge, LCSW, Director of Community Social Services, and Norma Carranza, NP, Clinical Nursing Supervisor accepted the award on behalf of the 70 other staff members with them at the Dolby Theatre and the thousands in the MPTF workforce over the past 100 years. This Oscar ceremony marked the first time the Hersholt was given to an organization.
Cranston recalled a time at the end of a pandemic when lives had been lost and changed forever in 1921, when actors took action raising money for MPTF. “One hundred years later, we find ourselves in another global pandemic,” he said. “This time, MPTF knew how to answer the call — because they had been doing it for decades.”
Upon receiving the award, Beitcher remarked, “It’s the honor of a lifetime for all of us to work together and to receive this award. We really and truly take care of our own. And to Jean Hersholt, humanitarian and our president at MPTF for 18 years, we’re bringing you home tonight.” Oscar statuette ®A.M.P.A.S.©
