“One should never underestimate the stimulation of eccentricity!” That Neil Simon quote is a favorite of Murphy Dunne, a Chicago native with a long entertainment career including ongoing stints with the Original Blues Brothers Band. In fact, that quote could sum up the appeal of working in showbiz where personalities of all kinds get together to entertain the world. Those folks are also the ones who make up our campus, where Murphy now lives and thrives at the Lodge after first coming to long-term care following a fall on tour in Milan.  His trajectory of improvement – when many thought it wasn’t possible –is a real tribute to the incredible nursing staff and clinical team at MPTF.

After starting off as Peter Boyle’s understudy, Murphy worked as both an actor and an accompanist with credits including High Anxiety, The Blues Brothers, Veep, Justified, and many more. He’s always remained focused on his family including his wife Kristine, his voiceover agent he met 35 years ago, and his daughter Veronica, who played Zendaya’s best friend on Disney’s K.C. Undercover. Now they all visit regularly here at MPTF, where he says “the food’s good, the people are friendly, I like the interaction, and I love The Grey Quill Society.” That campus writing group has become a cherished writing outlet for many residents, and it’s just one of the many benefits of living here among so many creative, vibrant entertainers.
