MPTF’s Courteney Bailey welcomed Delta’s Scott Santoro, Vice President, Los Angeles and Sales-West, to speak with her on MPTF Influencers. In their conversation, Scott shared that in early March of 2020, Delta, an invaluable and long-term supporter of MPTF, was excited to announce its role as a primary sponsor of LA28, LA’s 2028 Summer Olympics. But less than a week later, California announced the pandemic’s state of emergency. “We were at 4,500 flights a day on March 12th, and the next day we were a few hundred.” The company was losing over $100M a day for a period of two to three months. But as Scott notes, “we hunkered down… and we were there for our employees… we put people over profits.” As a testament of loyalty to their employees, not one single person was laid off throughout the entire pandemic. And in honor of their customers, Delta has blocked middle seats and reduced the number of customers on board each flight through April 2021. Delta is the only U.S. airline to continue providing more space for customers.
