STATE OF THE ART VIEWING
EXPERIENCE FOR OUR RESIDENTS
In 1967, we dedicated the Louis B. Mayer Memorial Theater, named after the decades-long head of Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer. Gregory Peck, Debbie Reynolds, and many others were among the attendees. Located in the heart of our campus, the theater serves as a social center for our residents with weekly screenings of first-run films, Q&A sessions with Hollywood luminaries, and many other events. Here generations convene for entertainment created by today’s creative talents.
OUR RENOVATION
In 2017, a major renovation of the theater was completed and unveiled to overwhelming joy on campus as residents can now spend time together and share the big screen experience like never before. The Susan and Gary Martin Screening Room and the Michael V. Lewis Plaza were constructed through donations from longtime Sony Pictures production exec Gary Martin and his wife, Susan, and RealD founder and CEO Michael V. Lewis. Christie Digital Systems, Deluxe Entertainment, Entertainment Partners, the Hollywood Foreign Press Association, Iron Mountain, National Philanthropic Trust, The Barbra Streisand Foundation, and AMC are all corporate-level sponsors of the Susan and Gary Martin Screening Room.
“Screenings of first-run films are an essential ingredient of the active lives of our campus community and a fantastic space for community events of all kinds.”

The new improvements for what is now The Louis B. Mayer Memorial Theatre Complex include:
- Theater seats
- Carpeting
- Digital Cinema Projector
- Dolby Atmos Sound System
- Lighting
- Redesigned Stage
- ADA-compliant Handicap Seating
One vital addition to the theater is a magnetic induction system wired into the floor that allows a movie’s audio to be heard directly through their hearing aids, providing unsurpassed ease and enjoyment for many of our residents. The theater has also served as a vibrant live entertainment space for volunteers and residents over the decades including music performances, comedy revues, and more.
It has served as home base for the annual Instant Film Festival which brings together residents and volunteers for a day of on-the-fly filmmaking, and it is now the permanent home of MPTF Studios’ Creative Chaos, our day-long variety show of live programming held multiple days a week in the theater to keep residents creatively engaged.
